Discovering Pixies and Dreams in ‘The Gift of the Emerald Ring’

Four winged fairies dancing hand in hand in a moonlit wildflower meadow

The Gift of the Emerald Ring

Elfin children go out to play
Among painted flowers they sing,
‘ Please, pixies come and dance today.
What magical gifts will you bring? ‘

Elders laugh as they watch the sight
Of childish fantasies and dreams
With masked envy of their delight
And hidden fears of pixies’ schemes.

Children know what adults don’t see.
As pixies flutter and frolic,
But from adults pixies flee.
To dodge the feared melancholic.

‘ Please, pixies come and dance today.
What magical gifts will you bring? ‘
The toddler prince found it one day
A mystical emerald ring

With masked envy of their delight
And hidden fears of pixies’ schemes
The prince kept the ring out of sight
While pixies whispered in his dreams.

Children know what adults don’t see.
As pixies flutter and frolic.
Hiding the truths of what must be
In their playful childish rollick.
