The Gift of Lenore
In her despair hollow, dark and lonely
Away long 'n' far from her one and only
In desperate shadows she waits forlornly
Her desires and dreams seize her northernly
Lonely Lenore, aching for her love,
Cries out to the pixies above:
"Where is my love, my life, my one?
Is he alive? Has the war been won?"
Your love survives
Upon the Crimson Shore;
Yes, he remains alive,
Far from hidden Danore.
"My love will never find me here;
I live in anguish year by year,
Hidden from his searching sight
By spells that shroud this isle in night."
Take the ring from your hand;
By its power your love will stand.
Its magic leads to destiny
Among the Pools of Restiny.
"But the ring keeps me safe and alive;
Without it, how will I survive?
Its light has hid me all these years;
Without it, who will calm my fears?"
You and your love will unite before you die;
That the ring sustains you is a lie.
It's love that has sustained you,
And love will see you through.
Then Lenore slipped the ring from her hand
And bound it to her golden chain,
And though her heart would ache again,
She gave it to the pixie band:
"The ring and all its glory
Will be the end of our story.
Bid him not to search for me,
But sail upon the eastern sea.
Give it to my love far away;
Go now, without delay."
Into the night the pixies flew
Like starlight fading from her view,
And on the cold ground of Danore
Knelt empty-handed Lenore.
"So now our fate is sealed,
While my life and love lie concealed."
This dark fantasy poem is part of an ongoing fantasy poem series—each installment is a self-contained tale that also weaves subtle allusions to the others, creating a tapestry of epic fantasy poetry and deeply connected fantasy stories that will ultimately form one complete narrative. In this chapter of the saga, the atmosphere leans into the shadows—haunted battlefields, ominous prophecies, and long-buried secrets—while the language remains lyrical and accessible for readers who love story-driven verse. The poem explores how love endures in a world marked by loss, how destiny calls flawed heroes into war, and how the choices they make echo through realms both seen and unseen, all within a compact, cinematic reading experience.
