The Rescue of Lenore: Dark Fantasy Poem in a Narrative Series

Hooded figure walking through a forest toward a castle under a crescent moon

The Rescue of Lenore

In a prison hollow, dark and lonely

Away long 'n' far from her one and only

In quiet shadows she waits forlornly

Her desires and dreams whisk her northernly

Where white aspen branches in cold winds blow

Warm birch fires on winter's chilled nights glow

In land where cold crystal clear rivers flow

Flowing from mountain peaks covered with snow

Her heart sings sweetly of days long gone by

When she and her love would escape up high

Above the golden fields of barely and rye

Before the dark days when fate forced good-bye

Now she sits and waits for her rescue time

When she and her true love would again climb

Up the snowcapped mountains in the springtime

When their love raises the dawn of peacetime

These were the days of war between men 'n' elves

When valor equals might and lust compels

When sorcery 'n' craft were for evil spells

But one flame can give light where darkness dwells

Lucius was a faithful man 'n' brave knight

Who was taught that true valor stood for right

Honesty and truth was his main delight

In dark times, he became the source of light

In golden lands of the south he was born

Into a world at war divided 'n' torn

Among the painful brier, thistle and thorn

Where once grew full crops of soy bean and corn

The crucible fires of war destroyed the land

Northern elves turned farms into dry wasteland

Men had chopped forest 'n' trees of their woodland

Destruction 'n' death were the price war demands

In this world Lucius sought to bring peace

From wartime's oppression, he sought release

He dreamed of days when valor would increase

When concord would prevail and war would cease

In a dream he heard a wind's whisper say

Go to the eastern land far far away

A realm that knows only night never day

In a cave a fair elfin princess lay

This was the one path to peace, he was sure

He was destined to be the elf's savior

From this one aim he vowed not to detour

This was the way of true knightly valor

To the dark and evil land he would go

Over mountains high and through valleys low

Armed with sharpened sword and fiery bow

To meet an evil foe he did not know

Dragons and goblins would stand in his path

Servants of the Dark Lord's infernal wrath

For he desired no end to his bloodbath

The Dark Lord was the cause of this warpath

Density 'n' Hope were on Lucius' side

That day hundreds of evil goblins died

Dragons flew away back to caves to hide

The design of the Dark Lord was denied

An elf princess was rescued by a man

Lenore would soon return to her love's hand

Ushering endless peace throughout the land

The light of valor had shone through one man
